Sitting on Tyler’s couch later that day as they relaxed and listened to music, Monica’s mind was on overdrive. Thinking back on the day’s events, she was still amazed at how Tyler’s friends and family had accepted her role in his life. She had fully expected that they would be peppered with questions regarding how they met, what she did for a living, and why Tyler felt it was important to bring her to a family function. But none of those questions came. It was as if there had been this unspoken acceptance. Not having to deal with any of those questions was actually a welcome gift. The one thing she had no desire to discuss with other people was how her co-worker had went absolutely crazy one day and tried to abduct her. No, that was definitely not the tone of the day.
Watching the object of her secret thoughts sit behind his desk as he typed away on his laptop keyboard, reading glasses perched on his nose, he looked so...normal. If she hadn’t seen the coiled animal underneath that he kept on a tight leash, she would never think of him as anything other than a regular guy. And if she knew anything, she knew Tyler was not regular. Not by any stretch of the word.
Watching him talk and mingle with everyone earlier today had shown her just how much he loved his family. He may never say the words, or even admit it, but the love was there. It was in how he deferred and listened to Noah, the unofficial big brother of the group, or how he and Tony, Daniel, and Ethan seemed to read each other’s minds and sometimes even finished each other’s sentences. Even Stefano was pulled into his circle and while they may not be as close as he was to the others, Tyler watched him and Adele with a smile on his face. Whatever Stefano had done to make Tyler smile was something worthy.
Her eyes had silently observed him watching the women at the event as well. Although Adele and Vanessa were married to his brothers and she would expect him to do nothing less than give them the utmost respect, he did it with all of the women. To a degree. While Noah and Daniel had come alone, Tony had brought a date with him and boy was she was beautiful. Her brunette hair had been styled and coiffed perfectly, her outfit straight out of the most expensive clothing store, and her nose so far in the air you could see up into her brain.
At one point, she heard Vanessa asking her husband, Ethan, why Tony had brought the woman to the event. That it was only for family and close friends. Considering that she was neither family, nor a close friend, Monica wondered for a second why she was there as well. But choosing to ignore that question for the time being, she figured Tyler had no choice but to bring her due to her situation.
